About the sights:
BISTRITA MONASTERY
The Bistrita Monastery was built in the 1490 s by the Craiovescu noble family. The first documentary certification dates from the 16th March 1494. It's first founder is Barbu Craiovescu. He brought here the relics of St. Grigorie Decapolitul from Constantinopul in 1497. St. Grigorie (780-842 A.D.) was a defender of the true faith, fighting against the iconoclastic heresy.
HUREZI MONASTERY
Between 1678 and 1725 Romanian art underwent an artistic and cultural revival which brought about a specific style, called the 'Brancovan style' after the name of Romanian Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu (1688 - 1714). This period in Romanian art represents a last glimpse of the Post-Byzantine art synthesis and flourishment during an age when Russian, Serbian and Greek art, as well as that of the Principalities, was still faithful to the Orthodox tradition.
MONASTERY ARNOTA
Arnota Monastery is situated within Costesti village union, 56 km away from Rm Valcea and celebrates its feast day as “Archangels Saints Michael and Gabriel”. Arnota Monastery was built up in 1634 by Matei Basarab, at that time at beginning of his reign. As legend tells, before becoming King, Matei has escaped the hunting troops by hiding in some bushes of the very place.
POLOVRAGI CAVE
The Polovragi Cave is in the Carpathian Mountains, near the Paring Mountains, a short distance from the Women's Cave. It has an explored length of 27 km, but it is supposed to be much longer than that, and that it exits in Transylvania, to the north.
Near the cave is the river Oltetzu, the Oltetzu Gorge where the two mountains are separated by only two metres, with the river between them.
MONASTERY POLOVRAGI
The Polovragi Monastery, (district of Gorj) is one of the most important religious and artistic monuments which attracts the admiration and the appreciation of the visitors from our country and from abroad. The most recent researches based on two Slavonic inscriptions, establish the building date of the Polovragi Monastery about 1505. It is attributed tu Radul and Patru, Danciul Zamona's sons, which are mentioned in a document issued by Prince Basarab cel Tânar (1477-1481), on 18th January 1480. This document constitues the first documentary attestation of the village of Polovragi.
WOMAN’S CAVE
Among the thousands of caves in the Carpathians Mountains, only a few had such a rich past in events as the Woman Cave (Pestera Muierii) from Baia de Fier had. Situated in a wild place, having more than just one entrance, the Woman Cave was a natural fortress, a resistance point for the inhabitants of the neighboring settlements over their struggling history. One of the entrances offers an excellent observation point over the field from the South and another entrance opens the view to the dense forests of the Parang Mountains.
